Some children are anything but shy. They love to talk and wave to strangers wherever they go. For one mother who was out shopping at a grocery store with her 4-year-old daughter, she likely didn’t think that she would soon become friends with a senior after her daughter expressed an interest in meeting a man walking nearby. It turns out, the meeting and friendship have really lifted this elder’s spirits.
Tara Wood was out with her daughter Nora at a grocery store. The duo was on the hunt for some cupcakes for Nora’s birthday and while they had passed several individuals along the way, Nora became fixated with a senior man. The 81-year-old man was roaming the aisle as he picked up various items when the little girl spoke to the man.

In their conversation, Nora told the man named Ben that it was her birthday and after a short little cheerful exchange, the couple parted ways. However, as Tara moved on, Nora pleaded with Tara to go back so she could get a photo with the man for her birthday. It didn’t take them very long before they managed to tack him down and explain Nora’s request.

Ben was quite shocked to see a little girl who didn’t know him would like to take a photo together but he was happy to do so. This little exchange was posted on Facebook where the community was sharing the photo around. It turns out that one of the people who noticed the photo actually knew Ben. He shared a comment to Tara and said that Ben had lost his wife recently and was feeling very depressed. That photo was the first time in quite a while where he looked to be happy.
Furthermore, Ben told his friend about the exchange and how it lifted his spirits. After hearing the news, Tara was able to get in touch with Ben and brought Nora over with various cookies and candies in order to spend time with her new friend. This certainly raised his spirits and Tara is hoping others will follow suit. When we go out and see a senior all alone, we should offer a warm smile and a quick greeting. This small little exchange could have a bit impact just like it did with Ben.
