Sometimes, you can find love, kindness and encouragement in the strangest of places. It’s doubtful anyone thought they could find all that in Macon, Georgia… at a McDonald’s.
Sandra has been working at the McDonald’s there for about a year now, and she greets every customer with a smile and makes them feel like family. And that’s not a put-on… that’s just the way she is. But one day, Joel Stairs walked into the restaurant with his young son, and Sandra just knew the little boy was troubled by something. So she sat down at their table and asked if everything was alright.
It wasn’t. The young boy’s mom was in surgery at that very moment at the hospital where the restaurant was, and he and his dad were both worried about it. So Sandra started talking to the youngster, telling him that everything was going to be okay, and she did plenty in that talk to lift his spirits.
Says his father, Joel: “She just started encouraging him and I just saw how she interacted and even said, ‘If you need a hug, you can have a hug today’.”
And before they left the restaurant, Sandra gave her new friend a big hug, and he returned it in kind.
Says Sandra: “Just be a beacon for 10 seconds in their life. I think that’s what life is all about right now and I’m here for that.”
Another customer said that Sandra works from her heart, and we need more of that in the world today. And even on the rough days for Sandra, she always leaves that at the door so she can hopefully brighten someone else’s day. And that’s what makes it all worthwhile.
