When a child is given up, there is usually a good reason. In Will Russell’s case, he felt he was way too young to care for a baby. He was also an alcoholic, and that is never a good thing around a child. Baby girl Amy needed a father who was going to be there for her, and Will just wasn’t that man.
In a short time, Amy was adopted, and Will moved on. He found himself working with the Phoenix Rescue Mission organization, and, after some time, he began a full-time ministry. But during all of this, Will often thought about that little baby… the child he had to let go of.
That was some years ago, and Amy grew up. At the age of 24, she started looking for her biological family, and in a short amount of time, she was able to track down one of her siblings, and then she was given her real father’s phone number. And even though she was extremely nervous, she made that call. And they talked. And soon, the two of them met for breakfast.
Will opened up and told Amy about his addiction to alcohol when she was born, and that he was so young to raise a child. And that he had to let her go. And then he had to go prepare and serve food at the mission, and they said their goodbyes. Amy had to leave as well, and headed off to where she volunteered. Turns out, they both left and followed the same route to get to the exact same location.
Amy had been volunteering for some time at the same mission house as her dad… they just worked in different parts of the building. And now they are both very content with their lives.
