There was a Baptist minister in Monticello, Georgia. He was a good man… but he was losing his faith. It was so bad, he didn’t even WANT to go to church anymore. He felt all was lost in his life.
Somewhere else in Georgia, Mykehia Curry was just getting ready to start nursing classes at Albany State University. She was the only one in her family to ever make it to college. But she was scared. How would she afford her student loans? Money was extremely thin; so much so that she didn’t even have enough to buy a blanket for her dorm room bed.
So she did something unusual for an 18-year-old woman. She wrote a note that said: “Dear God, please help me get EVERYTHING I need before Wednesday.” And she listed some things. And she put her name and address on it, just to make sure God remembered where she lived. And then she tied that note to a helium balloon that she had… walked outside… and sent it skyward.
Now that Baptist minister, Jerome Jones, was working in his new job outside for the power company when he watched a balloon float down from the sky and right into his lap. When he read the note attached to it, he knew he had to do something to help Mykehia out. But he was about the poorest man in Georgia; had only $125 to his name. That didn’t matter though… he spent it all on the young college girl, buying her a mini-refrigerator and a comforter for her bed.
Mykehia’s prayers were answered. And she was no longer scared. And when word got out about the young woman’s financial concerns, a GoFundMe account was started, and, in a short time, raised $16,000 for her.
And Jerome? Well, he’s back with the church now with a new outlook on life. And his faith…completely restored.
