It was a nice day out, so Joyce Rhinehart decided to take her grandson Blake out for ice cream. They drove to Rita’s Italian Ice. While there, Joyce spotted a family enjoying their ice cream and day out together and asked the family if she could take their picture. They agreed, and Joyce snapped the shot. Then, she handed her phone to the teenage girl and told her she could text the picture to one of their cell phones, and she did. Joyce was happy that she could share that moment with this family.
A few days later, Joyce received something of a disturbing message from an unknown number on her phone, but a message that she would cherish all the same.
It read: “Dear Madam, you took our picture in front of Rita’s on June 8th. My wife passed away yesterday and this is the last picture we have together as a family. Please accept my deepest gratitude for your kindness, it means the world to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Well, Joyce was very saddened by that news. But she was also glad that she acted on that spur-of-the-moment act to ask the family if she could take their picture and give it to them.
Sometimes a simple act of kindness can go a long way in comforting an entire family. And that was certainly the case here.
