When a child needs help, most of us will do what we can to help that child. But sometimes, it takes a very special person to give that help, and here’s a story where a child is saved by a very caring woman.
Little Skye Savren-McCormick was tasked with a BIG job last June… She was asked to be the flower girl in an upcoming wedding. She took that job very seriously… so much so that the 3-year-old practiced and practiced at her home walking and carrying a little white basket through the family living room.
And when that big day came… that big wedding and Skye’s performance of a lifetime… all the wedding guests could do while watching her… was to cry.
Says wedding photographer Jeannie Broadway: “There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. You could even hear sobs from people.”
They were crying because not all that long ago, doctors gave the little girl only a 10 percent chance to live. She had cancer, and was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately, she got one, and in time. Hayden Hatfield Ryals was the woman who gave little Skye her bone marrow, and a new chance at life.
Says Hayden: “She’s a fighter, and she is full of spunk, and she just has the best attitude, and I think everybody could learn something from this 3-year old…. I was honored to do it, and it was a privilege for me to get to do it.”
And for Skye’s part?
Once she was well enough after the operation, she served as Hayden’s flower girl at her wedding, dropping flower petals for her new best friend to walk upon.
