The day after Thanksgiving, Laura Genovich of Michigan learned that her mother had had a stroke and it didn’t look like she was going to make it. So a frantic Laura quickly left her home with her 3-month-old daughter and tried to get a quick American Airlines flight to Orlando, but it was delayed. She waited an hour before the flight was canceled. So Laura called her husband to tell him what had happened. She was very upset because it might be the last time she sees her mom.
When she got off the phone, a woman named Mary approached her. Mary had overhead Laura’s conversation with her husband and she wanted to help. She quickly learned that another airlines – Southwest – had a flight leaving for Orlando in 15 minutes. So the two hurried to the gate and Mary even paid for Laura’s last-minute ticket, which cost $400.
For her extreme act of kindness, Mary was given a voucher for a free flight from Southwest. And Laura and her young daughter were able to see Laura’s mom, just a few days before she passed away.
